AVIF
Remove metadata from AVIF files
AVIF is the next-generation open image format — backed by Netflix, Google and Apple — built on the same ISOBMFF container as HEIC. It inherits the same metadata capabilities: EXIF and XMP boxes ride along with the ultra-efficient AV1 image data. Future-proof your privacy the same way you future-proofed your compression.

Questions, answered
Is AVIF metadata a real privacy risk yet?
Yes. Any AVIF exported from a camera pipeline or editor can embed EXIF with location — exactly like HEIC. Adoption is growing fast in browsers, so the exposure surface is growing too.
Does stripping break AVIF's HDR or wide color?
No. The image essence boxes are preserved — only descriptive metadata boxes are removed. HDR and wide-gamut rendering are unaffected.
Why strip AVIF if few apps read it?
The apps that matter increasingly do — Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Android all support AVIF now. And a file you share today may be parsed more deeply tomorrow.
